Greetings, students! We’re geared up here to offer another round of epic internship experiences in 2021. The internship program offers the opportunity to pause your studies for one summer and work side-by-side with Blizzard Entertainment employees in your area of interest, doing real work that oftentimes ends up in production. As such, we hold you to the same high standards as anybody else in the company.

Just like our gameplay experiences, Blizzard internships are a fully immersive experience. We want interns who are enthusiastic about what they want to do for a living and excited to come in every day to learn and contribute in this hyper-creative atmosphere. · Currently enrolled in a college or university

· Returning for at least one more semester or quarter following the Summer 2021 internship

· Able to work full time hours for 11 – 12 weeks at the Blizzard office indicated in this job posting between May 2021 – August 2021 or June 2021 – September 2021 (group dates depend on when you get out of school)

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Character Concept Art Intern, Overwatch

The Overwatch team is seeking a Character Concept Artist intern to join us for a summer . As a Character concept artist you will be using your fearless imagination and bold talent to expand the world of Overwatch and bring new compelling characters into our story. Us ing the skills of both artist and designer to their fullest potentia l, a concept artist lives on the front line of development. Yo u’ll work closely with hero designers and 3D artists to bring new heroes, and new takes on heroes into the game. Y our knowledge of anatomy and expression will be pushed to new heights design ing the heroes , villains, and the crea tures between to inhabit the world.

  • Create skin concepts based on existing heroes
  • Iterate on game assets with production artists via paint overs, studies, and group critiques

Environment Concept Art Intern, Overwatch

As an environment concept art intern on Blizzard’s Overwatch, you will learn about and contribute to the expanding Overwatch universe. You will work closely with our concept, environment and level design team to help create levels that are both gameplay-oriented, beautiful and consistent with the handcrafted art styles that our games are known for. In short, you’ll be learning from and working with a close-knit, collaborative community of artists, engineers and designers whose sole goal is to make a truly epic and immersive game experience.

Technical Artist Intern, Overwatch

Help make our next heroes come to life! You'll leverage your skills by providing support throughout the character skin production process, working closely with character artists and animators; physics set-up and skinning character bodies and faces, and preparing them technically for export. You will learn the needs of a production pipeline and teams we support. You will work collaboratively with other departments including modeling, game design, animation, concept, and VFX. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated artist who has built rigs and can maintain a good level of visual and technical quality and must have a strong understanding of skinning. Pluses include ragdolls, anatomy, cloth / hair, and Python scripting.

· Familiarity rigging/skinning characters in Maya, or similar software

· Strong knowledge of character kinematics, deformations, and topology

· Proficiency in character Skinning, Physics, and Technical Workflows

· Strong communications skills

3D Artist Intern, Unannounced Project

Our ideal candidates have strong skills in authoring hand painted textures and is comfortable making a wide variety of 3D assets. We are looking for a 3D Art intern to help create hand painted props and environment art assets for an exciting new mobile title.

· Author 3D props and environment art pieces

· Create high quality hand painted textures

· Learn the technical requirements of the game (poly counts, naming conventions, texture resolution etc) and adhere to the enforced standards

· Integrate your own work and work received from outsource partners into the engine

· Champion Blizzard’s core values, especially “Commit to Quality” and “Learn and Grow”

Modeling Artist Intern, Cinematics

Candidates should have some experience working with digital modeling software to create dynamic and appealing assets. From the stylized world of Overwatch or Hearthstone to photorealistic Cinematic

models from the Warcraft Universe, the applicant must be excited to tackle any design tasked to them. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated and enthusiastic to share the workload of our hard-working, talented team. You will be right amongst the other artists and be held responsible to help assist the team in creating assets for our upcoming Cinematics.

· Basic understanding of Maya and the production pipeline

· Basic understanding of Zbrush and/or Mudbox

· Basic understanding of UVing, Topology and Displacement map extraction

· Ability to collaborate with the Modeling Team and bring your own passion, ideas and creativity to Blizzard Animation as a whole

Dungeon Artist, Diablo IV

Build and assemble in - game dungeon environments. Essential skills include a solid grasp of form, composition, layout and creating a readable gameplay space . You are also up on the latest tools and technology. Modeling, texturing, and asset creation are always a plus. The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about working on the dark gothic world of Diablo, making great games, killing millions of monsters, and getting loot! What will it take to be successful in this role? Well, we’re always looking for people who can help us become even better than we are today, and these are probably some of your previous achievements:

· Work directly with level design to build atmospheric dungeons with a focus on composition, detail, and mood, while ensuring that the gameplay space is readable.

· Work with Lead Dungeon Artist and the Art Director to ensure all environments are meeting the high-quality bar Blizzard is known for.

· Serve as an active participant in team art discussions, critiques, and reviews.

· Experience and a portfolio demonstrating assets developed in a modern pipeline and in game examples of World Building.

· Problem-solving / prototyping ability

· An exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, composition, and silhouette as it relates to world building and modeling.

· Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group

· Self-driven, excellent communicator, big picture minded and a model team-player

· Thinks of themselves as a game developer first, and an artist second

· A passion for games

· Organized and can optimize levels and assets for performance and memory.

Interactives Environment Artist Intern, Diablo IV

You will be modeling, texturing, and animating compelling assets with some VFX sprinkled in. You are a generalist who loves taking an asset through the entire art pipeline. Essential skills include a n understanding of form, color, and lighting for both 2D and 3D art assets. You can concept, model, texture, and animate your work. You should know that we will see you as a game developer first and as an artist second. That said, your primary job will be to work directly with Content and Level design, along with other Environment Artists to build Dynamic Interactive Props and Culture Kits with a focus on visual storytelling, detail, and mood, helping the world of Sanctuary feel like a living world. Lastly, we assume you will thrive in an environment of peers who are passionate about working on the dark gothic world of Diablo, making great games, killing millions of monsters and getting legendary loot. Right? What will it take to be successful in this role? Well, we’re always looking for people who can help us become even better than we are today, and these are probably some of your previous achievements:

· You're up to date on the latest tools and technologies of your field, and you have a keen interest in understanding and learning more about whatever comes next.

· You know how to successfully work with peers, Lead Artists and Art Directors to ensure all your assets are meeting the correct quality bar, consistently.

· Can author interactive environment assets for a modern pipeline, efficiently putting together multi-layered in-game assets. Development experience modeling, texturing animating assets using Maya, ZBrush , and Substance painter/designer, along with VFX knowledge is a necessity.

· Problem-solving / prototyping ability.

· An exceptional eye for art, shape, structure, composition, and silhouette as it relates to world-building and modeling, an excellent eye for animation, and supporting VFX.

· Self-starter, excellent communicator, big-picture minded, and a great teammate. You're used to being an active participant in team art discussions, critiques, and reviews, but you can also work creatively equally well in a smaller group or by yourself.

· A real passion for games.

VFX Artist Intern, Diablo IV

Working with 3D packages, in-game FX systems to create a wide range of VFX (fire, smoke, magic, electricity, explosions, etc.), as well as a general understanding of good game play communication. A solid grasp of the principles of motion, anticipation, dynamics, follow-through, lighting, and other facets of animation is essential for the position. The VFX Artist Intern must have skill in creating textures and geometry needed for stylized VFX. What will it take to be successful in this role? Well, we’re always looking for people who are game developers first and who can help us become even better than we are today, so these are probably some of your previous achievements:

· Creation of hand-crafted visual effects to be used in real-time game assets.

· Technical setup, integration, and troubleshooting of VFX in a real-time game engine.

· Work with lead artists to ensure timely completion of VFX assets at the desired quality bar.

· Serve as an active participant in team art discussions, critiques, and reviews.

· Experience with creating consistently brilliant, eye catching real-time FX using · Photoshop, Maya, and in-game FX systems

· Able to paint special FX textures from scratch and match an established style

· Proficiency with 3D graphics, particle systems, physics, ribbons, shaders, etc …

· Working knowledge of rendering engines and experience designing VFX shaders

· Solid game design awareness and an exceptional game design-oriented collaborator
