Gameplay Animator

Supermassive Games is an award-winning studio, known for the critically acclaimed games like “Until Dawn”, “Rush of Blood”, “The Quarry” and “The Dark Pictures Anthology”.
We are looking for a talented Technical Animator to join us and help craft high-end cinematic horror-games, as well as exciting VR games experiences.
The focus of the role is the "gameplay" animation, the animation that the player can control and interact with at run time, and the animation that requires a more technical approach, in the way it is built and implemented in engine.
You will be involved in all aspects of the animation pipeline collaborating with other key disciplines to implement and iterate content.
From performance capture editing to hand key.
From realistic facial animation to ragdoll simulation.
From locomotion animation to in-game state machines.
There will likely also be some cinematic animation, vehicle animation and the likes.
Role responsibilities:
- This is a hybrid role where a high level of artistic and technical expertise is required. You will be expected to turn your hand to the entire animation pipeline as necessary.
- The ability to use Motion Capture as a raw material, as well as key-frame animation, and extract, use and combine them to create the best experience for the player.
- Regularly collaborate with other disciplines such as environment, character, lighting and VFX artists, graphics programmers and level designers to create a AAA game experience.
- Follow the artistic vision as set out by directors and interpret feedback and direction accurately.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of traditional animation principles (timing, weight, etc.)
Requirements
Skills and experience required:- Around 5 years of experience as a technical animator, working on at least one AAA game.
- Able to clean up and enhance motion captured performances.
- Ability to create and iterate key-frame animation.
- A strong portfolio of work which demonstrates a love for animation and the ability to create high-quality work.
- Key-frame animation showcasing principles and fundamentals of animation.
- Demonstrable technical aptitude from these areas; scripting, simulations, state machines or other.
- Scripting experience.
- A focus on delivering a great game experience.
- Collaborating with other disciplines such as environment, character, lighting and VFX artists, engineering, and game designers.
- Willingness to give and receive constructive feedback to improve and grow.
- Fanatical about details, and meticulously organised.
