Animation Director

Supermassive Games is looking for a highly talented and experienced Animation Director to play a key role on an AAA title. The Animation Director is responsible for the quality and content of the animations and must ensure that they are believable and in line with the game’s vision as set by the Creative Director.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Producer you will be part of the leadership team.

Requirements

Experience

At least 5 years experience in animation, including time as an Animation Director in either film or games.

Key skills and Responsibilities

• The main and routine tasks of the Animation Director are:
• Create and document expected animation quality and content and clearly communicate this to the animation team
• To direct, coordinate and review the work of the animation team to ensure the highest quality results.
• Actively participate in animation system design and issue resolution
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of modern animation processes and techniques for multiple platforms.
• Ensure the quality of the integration of the animations
• Collaborate with other Directors and Animation Leads to establish best practices and improve product animation pipelines.
• Act as a role-model for animators by emphasizing project and company goals

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Maya
• Motion Builder
• Extensive knowledge of principals of key-frame and motion capture technology
• Experience of Character pipelines, character rigs and facial animation solutions
• Post production animation (Premier)

The candidate should have:

• The ability to communicate an artistic vision
• An ability to Interpret storyboards and take them through to final animation
• Industry experience on AAA titles
• A drive to constantly push animation quality and try out new ideas
• Attention to detail; believable character interaction is vital to our current and future projects
• The capacity to review the work done by others, propose ideas and offer constructive criticism
• Good collaboration with members of the animation team and other team members on the project.
• A confident attitude on own animation direction
• A highly-positive proactive work ethic
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
