We’re ArenaNet. We make the games we want to play and infuse them with innovation, hand-crafted detail, and creative passion. As developer and publisher of the award-winning Guild Wars game series, we’re proud to share our passion for the online worlds we’ve created with over 11 million players worldwide.

We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer to develop AI and relevant game systems using Unreal Engine. This individual will work across disciplines to develop a variety of systems that together tell stories and draw players into an immersive world while supporting workflows that make creating content for these systems fast and efficient at scale.

If you find joy in working with a creative team to make a world come alive through the believable behaviors of the people and creatures who inhabit it; if you see the potential of storytelling through the lens of the day to day lives of NPCs; then this role is for you.

About Our Team

The Engineering team at ArenaNet thrives on a wide array of perspectives, experiences, and interests. We know that the best creations come from healthy and friendly teams. Our work is woven together with the efforts of other disciplines and crafts within game development. We seek out voices and ideas that might be new to us. We are always on the lookout for ways to help each other, both within the Engineering team, and throughout the studio as a whole.

Who We Are Looking For

You, our ideal candidate, have experience working closely with designers and other disciplines. You are comfortable building AI and gameplay related systems with Unreal Engine. You understand factors affecting the performance of AI and gameplay systems and how to diagnose and optimize them.

AI Concepts can be difficult for non-technical teammates to apply effectively in creating content. You have experience not only in helping your teammates understand how to work with technical systems effectively but also in striving to ensure their workflows make sense to them. You have experience providing tools, debug utilities or other interfaces for those using your systems to create content for the game.

You have strong listening skills to understand design goals and can creatively synthesize solutions for those goals based on your experience and the capabilities of the engine. You show strong communication skills to present those options in a way that makes sense to designers and the rest of the team.

You can work together with non-technical colleagues to develop good practices, technical constraints, and team standards. You are always endeavoring to improve processes, tools, and workflows to maintain the quality and stability of the work produced across disciplines.

Experience with Havok AI, especially with navigation related systems, is considered a huge bonus for this position.

We are open to remote work in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, MA, MD, NC, NV, NY OR, TX, UT and WA or onsite/hybrid/flex at our office in Bellevue, WA.

Total compensation is salary plus an annual bonus potential . Please note that the listed pay range is a general guideline only.
