Do you sit and watch the patterns of enemies in every game you play? Do you have the knowledge and design experience to lead a group of multi-disciplined developers to create best in class gameplay experiences? If so, then inXile has an amazing opportunity for you.

We are searching the globe for our next hyper-creative Senior Combat Designer to work on our unannounced, next-gen project. You will collaborate and take direction from the Lead Combat Designer and Game Director to work with a multi-discipline team, designing and implementing exhilarating combat experiences.

Currently, given these unprecedented times, positions at inXile are offered as a virtual/remote workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Design Leads to design and implement the vision for combat
  • Design and implement enemy characters, including boss encounters, with unique behaviors
  • Design, implement, tune, and maintain combat abilities
  • Work closely with animation to implement, tune, and adjust timing of enemy moves/abilities
  • Collaborate with animation, art, audio, and visual effects to ensure enemy behaviors are readable to players
  • Work with the Combat Player team to make enemies take advantage of status effects, resistances, damage interactions, and unique enemy reaction states
  • Selflessly design experiences with accessibility in mind
  • Be an advocate for the player

Required Skills

  • 2+ years of experience as a combat designer on a shipped first or third person game
  • Designed, prototyped, and implemented AI characters
  • Can break down and explain game mechanics
  • Understand the moment-to-moment gameplay loops of first-person shooters and RPGs and what makes those genres fun
  • Experience as a gameplay/combat/AI designer working on player-centric action systems
  • Knowledge of Unreal Blueprint and/or similar scripting environments
  • Knowledge of Unreal behavior trees and/or similar experience
  • Knowledge of Unreal animation graphs and/or similar experience
  • Understanding of basic animation principals and animation timing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter who asks for help when needed
  • 5+ years in game development, with at least 2 years of experience working with AI archetypes and combat encounters
