Role Overview - 3D Character Artist
SEGA HARDlight is looking for a 3D character games artist to focus on in game real-time characters and renders for marketing art across our live games and new projects.
The ideal candidate should understand how to take a concept to build efficient characters that work on mobile but can also scale that up and present extremely high-quality renders for marketing and frontend use. You will enjoy and be comfortable working on a range of stylized and realistic characters, working independently and in a team and able to manage your time effectively.
Responsibilities
- Create low poly stylized game characters and textures.
- Create high poly stylized and realistic character renders.
- Create clean, low-resolution game topology and efficient UV’s.
- Create LODs and help optimize character assets.
- The timely creation of high-quality game-assets to the project's art-style & technical requirements.
- Take ownership of the game characters. Help with milestone planning and work with animators, designers and programmers to deliver the best character experience for each game.
- Keep abreast of the latest industry art production trends and techniques.
- Create additional art elements such as icons, props and game logos when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of core software packages (eg. 3DsMax, Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush).
- Knowledge of rendering software, materials and lighting (eg. VRay, Arnold).
- Familiarity with the entire real-time character creation pipeline: high-poly sculpting, retopology, UV mapping, texture baking, texture creation, setting up and exporting to game.
- Able to perform a basic skin and rig for a character to enable posing.
- Ability to create textures and materials in different styles – hand painted, photographic, vector based.
- Ability to set up a scene for rendering that demonstrates an understanding of lighting, materials and render settings.
- Able to take a final 3d render and improve/adjust in photoshop for final presentation.
- Good understanding of technical constraints and how to make the most out of them.
- At least 3 years-experience creating artwork for games.
- Excellent communication skills as a collaborator.
- Technical expertise and familiarity with game-engines & their performance requirements.
- Enjoy the feedback process as the best way to create fantastic visuals.
A portfolio demonstrating all aspects of your skill is REQUIRED
Desirable
- Experience with working in game engines like Unity / Unreal
- Ability to create character concepts
- Development experience on a wide variety of mobile platforms.
