3D Character Artist II - Consumer Products

Riot character artists face the unique challenge of translating 2D character designs into a 3D space, creating—and sometimes inventing—a character’s anatomy. Masters of proportion, likeness, and readability, character artists ensure that even a tiny figure is not only a believable form, but that it also captures the character’s fantasy.

As a Character Artist on the Consumer Products team at Riot, you will bring champions to life by creating and texturing high poly models. You will help build some of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming. Your sculpting skills, artistic eye and understanding of anatomy, form, and color will lead the way in character creation. Working within both technical and design constraints, you will use your knowledge of proportions, anatomy and readability to ensure game models are optimized for physical products.

Responsibilities:

• Create 3D assets ranging from humanoid to creatures
• Understand material requirements to create assets optimized for physical product
• Interpret concept designs while taking into account technical and design constraints
• Use your sense of human/creature anatomy to push character quality to its fullest potential
• Give and receive constructive, creative feedback
• Support other character artists in developing style guides and process/pipeline
• Help advocate for process/tech improvements for the Art discipline at Riot

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience working with modeling, sculpting, and texturing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop
• 3+ years of experience modeling for physical merchandise
• Traditional fine art skills with an understanding of human anatomy, form and color theory

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience working with Rendering/colorization and Maya sizing/scale output for print prototypes tooling pipeline
• Experience mentoring junior artists
• Master of efficiency with the ability to refine and improve workflow
• Passionate about collectibles and figure development
