3D Art Lead - Legends of Runeterra

Established in early 2016, the Hong Kong Studio is Riot’s first international game development studio. We’re a diverse team, representing more than 15 nationalities and partnering with teams in the LA headquarters on League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and Legends of Runeterra. On top of this, we’re currently building teams for VALORANT, a character-based tactical shooter, and Project L, our take on the fighting game genre.
While operating like a startup—with autonomy and total ownership—we’re doubling down on our goals to build a world-class studio in a vibrant, international city, on a continent that is home to the League of Legends World Champion teams. The Hong Kong Studio is looking for talented, passionate people across all aspects of game development to help build Riot’s blueprint for a global, multi-studio world... and to make great games!

That’s where you come in.
As the 3D Generalist Craft Lead for Legends of Runeterra, you will channel your knowledge of concepting, modeling, and texturing skills to help tell stories through visually compelling creatures, props and environments. Working within both design and technical constraints, you will build and lead a team of 3D artists to deliver optimized 3D objects that enhance the purpose and mood of the game. Your craft expertise and eye for structure, form, shape language, and design, will help develop fantastic new worlds for our players to experience.
Responsibilities:
- As overall craft lead in this 3D space, you will oversee the quality of the work the team deliver, and set the bar for excellence
- Use your understanding of optimized low poly asset creation
- Experience in hand painted textures with the ability to work around technical challenges
- Interpret concept designs while taking into account technical and design constraints such as draw calls, poly counts texture memory limits
- Communicate with various other disciplines to ensure all assets are performant
- Build and mentor a sizebale external 3D art team to help scale production
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with modeling, sculpting, and texturing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, Substance, and Photoshop
- Experience working with various game engine middleware solutions
- Familiar with Unity or applicable game engines is a plus

As a part of the application process we require a portfolio with handpainted environments, props, and creatures. Additionally, you may be asked to complete an art test.
