Our Mission
Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021 the company created their first original IP, 'Brightpaw', which was published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google and iOS by Rogue Games.
Since its beginnings in 2017, the company has grown to over 60 incredibly talented, collaborative, and creative individuals. We are the sum of our skills, passion, and, most of all, our people. We firmly believe that treating individuals with genuine respect, understanding, and kindness creates a welcoming culture that allows creativity to thrive and for individuals to join together to create games they are genuinely proud of.
Your Mission
Your mission is to take control and responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the IT department, maintaining and innovating the systems we use. You need to prioritise your time effectively to ensure no tasks fall through the net, and critical ones are dealt with quickly.
You must be adaptive; no two days are the same in the Radical Forge IT Department and you should be prepared for anything. You need to be ready to build a server one day and a pipeline for our latest IP or client project the next.
You will be assisting the engineering team where required with infrastructure, sourcing hardware and software from vendors, monitoring networks and systems, deploying assets to new and remote users, adhering to and improving security policies, maintaining accurate stock records, planning and implementing projects as required by the business, updating and improving documentation, and much much more.
You must be ready to ensure our systems and networks operate at peak efficiency - we regularly encounter situations where all of our systems are put under considerable stress for prolonged periods of time.
You will make sure to always maintain systems security and stability - this is a core function of the job role and absolutely essential to the running of the business.
Ideal Applicant
If you enjoy an environment where no two days are the same, where you are constantly challenged and never left looking for things to do then you will thrive here.
If you love having sole responsibility for tasks then you will also do well, as the running of the department will be your responsibility.
We are looking for someone with a keen eye for auditing and a good knowledge of why asset security is so essential to the business.
If you have a background working in a development industry this would be a major plus - the ideal candidate would understand and appreciate how we take zeroes and ones and create something truly memorable out of them.
We as a company have a truly people-first culture - it is important that you fit in with that. We are looking for someone who can do all of the above, but also do it with a smile, someone who can have a laugh with the rest of the team during downtime. You must be serious about security and the critical tasks, willing to roll up your sleeves and get the job done like the rest of us, but we encourage a bit of silliness as well. Everyone brings something unique of their own to Radical Forge, we embrace it all.
Skills Summary
- Windows 11 support is critical - helping our team resolve issues with their day-to-day work. MacOS and Linux desktop support are a bonus.
- Linux server support is an absolute must, a lot of our core infrastructure runs on Linux servers so you must know how to quickly and accurately resolve any issues our servers may be experiencing.
- Server setup and configuration - both Windows and Linux are required on a regular basis as development work and projects change often, and each project may need its own full pipeline.
- System security knowledge is absolutely essential not only to Radical Forge but our entire industry. You must be proficient in securing networks and infrastructure, and ready to adapt and change security policies to combat an ever-evolving threat landscape.
- Closely tied in with system security, the ideal candidate must know their way around Virtualisation technology, and experience with containerisation would be a big bonus.
- Though not essential, knowledge of scripting and automation would be a plus - the likes of Ansible and Terraform in particular.
- Experience working with development pipelines would also be a bonus as you will, at times, work closely with our Engineering and DevOps teams to bring projects to fruition.
- A solid understanding of the Software Delivery Life Cycle would be very useful to the ideal candidate, along with prior support experience with development backend systems such as Git, Perforce, Subversion and TeamCity.
- A background in the games industry would be nice.
This role is primarily an onsite with semi-flexibility for remote working.
We will require all applicants to have a pre-existing right to work in the UK.
The role will initially be a 12 month contract with the potential to extend after this.
Interested in the job but don't feel you match the criteria? If you feel passionate about this role or joining the Radical Forge team we would still like to hear from you! We value our company culture, and we’re always looking for creative individuals from a variety of backgrounds to join our team!
