The Role
Lumeto's Finance department is looking for a post-secondary student to assist with various accounting tasks. This internship offers a good opportunity for the successful candidate to get a solid foundation in the core principles of accounting in a commercial environment. The role will primarily involve bookkeeping but will provide the successful candidate with hands-on experience and insight to build a successful career in Accounting & Finance.
This is an hourly, paid internship that requires a 3/4 month commitment of 35-40 hours per week. This is a hybrid position, which will require the candidate to attend our offices at 793 Pharmacy Ave in person on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities
The Accounting Intern will support the Financial Controller in some or all of the following areas:
- Reviewing supplier invoices to ensure compliance with contracts.
- Posting of approved invoices to our G/L and ensuring correct coding.
- Determining which invoices to include on our weekly payment runs.
- Initiating payments via online banking or other payment tools.
- Reviewing credit card transactions every month to ensure invoices are provided and correctly coded to the G/L, and that we are optimizing HST rebates.
- Regularly monitoring bank account and credit card balances and recommending inter-account transfers where needed.
- Posting actual bank activity to the G/L.
- Updating internal cash forecasting files with actual bank activity.
- Monthly bank reconciliations and HST returns.
- Processing journal entries and preparation of month-end reporting with comparison to Budget for review by Management.
- Preparation of internal cost reports on long-term projects and monitoring relative to Budget.
- Adhoc reporting to Banks and other stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
- Currently pursuing post-secondary education in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience/familiarity with Quickbooks Online is a plus.
